William J. Oley was from Pompey, N.Y. and he travelled to Dawson City, Yukon.

Custodial history

William J. Oley was co-worker (for 25 years) and friends with George Courtney, whose father (A.G. Courtney) participated in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. Iris Warner, Klondike historian, received this material from William J. Oley. The Dawson City Museum acquired this material from Iris Warner in 1984., ,

Scope and content

This collection contains photographs from the Gold Rush days in the Klondike collected by William Oley. The images include scenes around Dawson City, Yukon including 4th of July events, Robert Service's cabin, river views and streetscapes as well as scenes in the gold fields. There are images of the river trip to Dawson City from Whitehorse including one image of a church service at Tagish Post.
