Biographical history

William McKenney Wray, 1901-1984, was born in Thornbury, Ontario. The family moved to Alberta in 1917 and his father, Joseph, set up a dental practice in Redcliff. Bill attended Calgary Normal School in 1919 and briefly taught near Cochrane. From 1920 to 1929 he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) as an assistant agent with the Medicine Hat Division. During the Depression he became involved in the Social Credit Party and worked enthusiastically for the movement. In 1940 he became a clerk in the Calgary Land Titles office, rising to the position of Deputy Registrar. He retired in 1965. He was very active in the Alberta Old Age Pensioners Society. He never married.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of scrapbooks about Social Credit, the Old Age Pensioners Society, economic conditions, politics and other topics, which include his personal comments (1930- 1981); photographs of Social Credit and Old Age Pensioners activities (1920s-1950); and miscellaneous personal correspondence and reports.
