Biographical history
Willy Pfisterer came to western Canada from Salzburg, Austria in 1956. In 1959 he participated in the first successful Canadian ascent of the East Ridge of Mt. Logan with Hans Gmoser. In 1968, he began his career as an Alpine Specialist to the National Parks Department for western Canada and made his home in Jasper National Park. He was responsible for warden training activities, snow and avalanche control and safety, and he pioneered mountain rescue procedures and warden training. In 2003 Pfisterer received the Summit of Excellence Award at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. He still resides in Jasper.

The fonds consists of Log Books from Whistlers Mountain Ski Patrol (1954-1966), Mt. Morro (1971- 1981), Colin Peak (1930-1979), Watchtower Hut (1969- 1971), and Maligne Lookout (1960- 1967). Included also are Skiing and touring registers from Maligne Lake (1956- 1976) and records from Mt. Edith Cavell (1966- 1977). Fonds include details of mountaineers and climbers from Para Rescue courses led by Jasper Alpine guides Willy Pfisterer, Hans Schwarz and many Edith Cavell trips guided by Henry J. Fuhrer.
