Biographical history
Ena Kinna, 1907-1992, was one of the children of Andrew and Mary Woima, who had emigrated from Finland to central Alberta via the United States in 1903. Ena was born in the Kuusamo district west of Red Deer, Alberta. After attending school in Kuusamo and Red Deer, she went to the Edmonton Normal School. She taught for several years in central Alberta before marrying Ernest Kinna of Eckville. They settled in the Kuusamo district, where Ena became interested in preserving the history of the pioneers of the area. They had no children. Ernest Kinna, 1901-1987, was born in Estonia to John and Maria Kinna. The family emigrated to Canada and homesteaded near Eckville, Alberta. He was a store clerk before he married his wife Ena in 1933. Afterwards he took up farming in the Kuusamo district.
