Biographical history

Helen Woodside, ca. 1910-1978, and Donald Herbert Woodside, ca. 1908-1985, were children of Charles Thomas Woodside, 1881-1971, a prominent Calgary, Alberta businessman. Helen was a noted athlete in Calgary in the 1920s, particularly in swimming and basketball competitions. She married Lloyd Williams in 1942 and moved to Trail, British Columbia. Donald served with the Queen's Own Calgary Regiment overseas in England, France, Holland and Germany during the Second World War. On his return to Canada in 1945, he joined his father in the family grocery brokerage. He married Vera, ?-1971, and they had one son, King.

The fonds consists of scrapbook of newsclippings regarding Helen's athletic activities; scrapbook of Don's Second World War activities; and photographs of Helen, military events and the Woodside family.
