Theodore Yellow Fly, 1898-1950, was born in High River, Alberta, the son of a Blackfoot mother and Chinese father. His mother moved back to her home on the Blackfoot (Siksika) reserve with Teddy and his sister, Rosy, when their father became ill. His father died, and the children were raised by, and took the name of, Yellow Fly. Teddy worked as an interpreter and office worker at the Indian Agency. He married in 1917, but his wife soon died giving birth to a son. He subsequently married Jane Many Guns, and they had two daughters and four sons. He attended Gleichen Agricultural College, then farmed on the reserve. In the 1930s he took charge of the Blackfoot coal mines. He also served on the Blackfoot band council until his death. He was a well-known spokesman for native peoples, through radio broadcasts and appearances before royal commissions. He drowned in Calgary in 1950.
