Biographical history

The Yukon Chamber of Mines (YCM) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in Whitehorse in 1959. Its main objectives are to promote, assist and protect the development of a healthy Yukon mining industry. The YCM lobbies governments on behalf of the Yukon mining industry, collects and circulates statistics, offers mining and prospecting courses, publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, organizes lectures and the Northern Resources Conferences, and maintains a mining library. Financial support comes from membership fees and from annual government grants. The YCM has approximately 90 corporate members and 220 individual members. The YCM works in cooperation with the Klondike Placer Miners Association and the Yukon Prospectors Association. It is governed by a board of directors.
