Biographical history

No information available. Function: The Yukon Law Foundation was initially authorized under the Legal Profession Ordinance by amendments made in 1975 and was officially established by the Government of Yukon in 1979. The Foundation now carries out its mandate under the Legal Profession Act ratified on April 1, 1985. The responsibility of the Foundation is to manage and maintain a fund that is to be used for law-related activities including researching and recommending law reforms, maintaining law libraries, and contributing to legal education and legal aid programs. The fund managed by the Law Foundation is accumulated primarily from the interest on lawyers' trust accounts. The Board of Directors, comprised of six members of the Yukon Law Society, manages the business affairs of the Foundation. The Yukon Minister of Justice appoints three members and the Executive of the Law Society appoints three from among the members of the society. The term of office of the members is two years. In 1997, the Yukon Law Foundation provided a grant to have portrait photographs of the eight Superior Court judges of the Yukon reproduced and framed in commemoration of the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush.
