Zane Feldman's father Israel Feldman came to Canada via New York from Odessa, Ukraine. Israel and his wife settled in Winnipeg with their children, son Zane and daughter May. Zane (Zanvil) (b. Jan. 14, 1923-d. April 5, 2003) Feldman was married to Beverly Feldman for 21 years. Zane's children are daughter Sherry and sons David, Mark and Dennis. Sherry married Perry Kahler and they have two children, Zachary and Maxwell Kahler. Zane's other grandchildren are Mikhail and Stephanie Feldman and Lana Rose Feldman. Zane's business career began in 1947 with the purchase of a car; he went on to become President of West Edmonton Chrysler and had a lifetime involvement with the automotive industry. While Zane was President of Crosstown Motor City the car dealership grew to become the largest volume franchise in Canada. Zane was honored by the Edmonton Motor Dealers Association in1992 by their Annual Founders Award. Zane had a long business partnership with Dr. Charles Allard: they created an empire consisting of restaurants, hotels, land holdings, and radio and television stations. Zane's love of sports, and especially hockey was realized in his long involvement with the Crosstown City Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oil Kings. Zane was a founder of the original Edmonton Oilers and a founder and Governor of the World Hockey Association. Zane served as President of the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Alberta Oilers, who later became the Edmonton Oilers. Zane's compassion for his community was seen in his involvement with Crime Stoppers, The United Way, W.I.N. House, N.A.I.T., and the Youth Emergency Shelter. Zane's many association directorships included the Edmonton Motor Dealers Association, the Better Business Bureau, the Edmonton Safety Council, the North West Trust Company, the Salvation Army, the Boy and Girls Club of Edmonton, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Edmonton Exposition. The Cross Cancer Institute's Zane Feldman Auditorium bears his name. Zane served as President of Beth Israel Synagogue. In 1993 the Jewish National Fund of Canada named Zane as their honoree at their annual Negev dinner. Zane was awarded the Order of Canada in 1992.
